Grass fed eggs
from happy birds, living a real chicken life.
Our chicken live in a chicken coop that has wheels. This makes it possible to move them to a new location every day. This gives the chickens access to fresh grass and weeds to eat. This makes for an exceptional egg, and very happy chickens. They are full of rare and essential nutrients like CLA (conjugated linoleic acid) that have twice as much vitamine E and A with much more omega three, and much less omega 6 than non grass fed eggs.
The rotational grazing improves the quality of the soil, as the chickens fertilize and trample the grass into a mulch. Each year our grass grows taller and needs less water to stay green, creating both a better future for us and our chickens.
We have designed our pastures as a silvopastures, which is essentially a combination of animal pasture and agro forestry. The chickens manage the ground under the trees, reducing weed pressure and providing allot of manure and fertility for the trees. The trees provide the chickens with allot of nuts and fruit that fall to the ground. By selecting deciduous trees like apples and wall nuts, The trees provide allot of shade during the summer whilst allowing plenty of light to reach the grass in the winter when they lose their leaves.
An electric net is used to keep the birds safe from predators and to control what area of pasture the birds have access too. The is designed to be set up and dismantled quickly, allowing us to move the birds daily. This allows us to control how much impact the birds have on the pasture. Over grazing and fertilization are to be managed by moving often and giving the grass time to recover. This gives the chickens a large area to forage and play whilst having fresh grass and insects to eat every day.
To ensure high quality eggs, and the health of our birds we also feed them an organic chicken feed. This is made up of organic wheat, barley, corn, alfalfa meal, fava bean and other additives like calcium and oregano oil.
